Fatigue can affect us when our bodies are not fully recovering daily and dealing with the stress of modern life. People of all ages and from all walks of life can experience times when their energy levels drop dramatically. For some people this low energy and tiredness can go on for months or even years. Initially called “yuppy flu” it is now a much more recognised condition now renamed “chronic fatigue syndrome”.
So what can cause low energy and a feeling of tiredness or lethargy? Poor diet can play a vital role especially in the area of too much sugar. Although sugar can give a quick boost of energy, too much sugar can have a strong negative effect on our bodies by creating blood sugar problems. An effective supplement for blood sugar issues is chromium.
Low levels of B vitamins can also be a factor as the B vitamins are so important in the release of nutrients from the foods we eat. The B vitamins, especially B5 and B6 are crucial to overall health and wellbeing. B5 supports our energy levels due to its positive effect on our adrenal system and B6 supports the production of important enzymes that create important mood chemicals.
Some cases of low energy can be caused by the after effects of a virus. This problem is called “post viral fatigue syndrome”. Although no one knows exactly why it seems that after a virus some people’s immune system fails to switch off and they stay in a slightly elevated inflammatory state which mimics a state of tiredness.
